It’s nearly two decades since Underworld’s Born Slippy (Nuxx), with its unmistakeable ‘lager lager lager’ refrain, became a seminal dancefloor classic.
Boasting one of the most distinctive house hooks of the past 20 years, it became an iconic part of British 90s culture after featuring on the soundtrack to the 1996 cult hit film Trainspotting, going on to sell over a million copies – despite having started life as a little known B-side to the original Born Slippy single more than a year earlier.
And now as Underworld re-issue their groundbreaking album Second Toughest in the Infants, they have also unveiled a brand new video for the track that made them into household names.
The band ran a global contest to ‘re-imagine’ the video through The Creative Commission, with fledgling director Michael McCool winning with his black and white footage of a greyhound running along a beach, interspersed with shots of a group of lads having a kickabout and enjoying a mini-rave around a campfire.
The reissued edition of Second Toughest in the Infants by Underworld is out this week through Universal.
