A brand new independent radio station is now live in Birmingham – and celebrates its official launch with a night of live music tonight.
Brum Radio – billed as The Alternative Sound of Birmingham – has been on air for the past couple of months, with test broadcasts of a variety of shows, featuring music, arts, chat and more.
The station now broadcasts online 24/7 and boasts a growing schedule, with shows such as Brum Hour, WorldBeatUK, The Soul Hole, UAB Collective, Danny’s Brum & Bass Show, The Chicks Dig Jerks RadioShow, Dine Birmingham, Jack Parker’s Skit Cast and many more. When there are no live shows the musical output is made up exclusively of music from local artists, both established and up and coming. Shows are also being lined up by the likes of Ocean Colour Scene guitarist Steve Craddock, plus Fuzz Townsend of Car SOS, PWEI, The Beat and more.
Brum Radio station manager Richard Farmer said: “Brum Radio is about being fiercely independent and different. We are here to produce quality radio programming that punches way above our weight.”
The launch party takes place tonight (February 17) at the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath, with live sets from Birmingham-based skiffle punks Terry & Gerry, Americana trio Vix & Her MsChiefs, The Bank Accounts and Anthony Price, plus DJ sets from Brum Radio DJs. The show starts at 7pm start, tickets are £8 adv from here.
All money raised goes towards keeping Brum Radio going. Find out more and listen to the station online at the Brum Radio website, or catch up on previously aired programmes at the Brum Radio Mixcloud.
