As we creep towards autumn, live music will be going into overdrive and what a selection there is this week to get you started. Here is our weekly look at the best gigs in Birmingham for the week ahead…
On Thursday (5), Brum Notes continues to bring you the best in up and coming new talent at the September Issue Launch Party at the Bull’s Head in Moseley. This month we welcome alternative indie rock trio Sunshine Frisbee Laserbeam to the stage who will be launching their self-titled debut album – make sure to come with a few extra pennies in your pocket and pick up a copy from the boys. Support comes courtesy of alt-grunge four-piece Adore, newcomers Curb and experimental solo artist Dave Shannon, while Greg Bird & Enterprize will be providing the sounds from the decks in between. Alternatively, Your City’s In Heat presents Laced, These Kings, #KLOC over at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath. Entry to this is priced at £4, head over to the official website for more information.
Friday (6) is the night of an incredibly special event which fuses the city’s thriving music scene with its beautiful new library. Head on over to the new Library of Birmingham from 8pm where Leftfoot present soul singer, Omar, as part of the extraordinary Capsule-curated opening season. Tickets are priced at £15 advance and can be purchased here.
On Saturday (7), for some afternoon antics, celebrate the inaugural International Cassette Store Day in style with live sets in store at Swordfish Records from Midnight Bonfires, Cannon Street, Drakelow, Oliver Rudge and Tom Peel. The action kicks off at 4pm.
Later that evening PWS Promotions present These Kings plus support from the incredible and highly recommended The Exploding Sound Machine. Make sure to head down to The Flapper to see this show for the entry price of £5 and find all further information here.
Then, Sunday (8) spoils you with free all day events. At Brewdog bar, there’s nine hours worth of live music and a BBQ to be had amongst their gorgeous selection of craft beers and ales. On the mic are The Ravens, Rick Wellings, Miles Cocker, Club Phobia, Luke Wylde and The Japes, Bailey, I Am Anushka, Luke Davis and Chris Cleverley – a varied and talented line-up of returning favourites and new additions – find out more information on all of them, here.
Over at The Sun on the Hill, The Free Love Club presents HeartsFest featuring Velvet Riot, Kitten Pyramid unplugged, The Railway Social Club, Fayedra, The Sons of Pitches, Jp Haslam and Alan Mason amongst others. Expect the usual fun and free atmosphere, enter with an open mind.
