It’s been seven months since Curb released anything, but the wait has been worth it. At seven minutes long Communication is quite a departure from the dark and brooding So High and whilst not exactly a cheery little number, Communication is, in a word, bigger.
From the start, drums and bass bring you into a solid groove which cuts through the wall of guitars that stand about as close to a musical smoke machine as you get. On top of the musical landscaping lie Tom O’Ryan’s ever-dreamy vocals, dealing with themes of apathy that a lot of us can relate to. It’s a testament to them that despite the myriad of music talent coming out of Birmingham at the moment, this song sounds like none of it – from clever grooves to soaring guitar solos this is a track that would probably feel as at home in the NIA as it does at the Hare & Hounds.
Think about all the time you waste everyday, if there’s a band you should waste seven minutes of your time on, it’s Curb.
