We’ve all been working super hard on the May issue of Brum Notes magazine and on May 1 it’ll be out in all its physical glory at any music establishment worth its salt across the West Midlands. To celebrate its launch, we’ve invited four wonderful bands to come and help us at The Sunflower Lounge on Tuesday, May 6 – that’s right, two minutes from the station, there’s no excuses for anyone! As before, there will be fun, frolics and FREE MAGAZINES so join us as we explore a selection of influential musical genres – this is a lineup you do not want to miss out on, especially not at £3 a pop!
With live music from:
Spanish flamenco, Spaghetti Westerns, Love and The Brian Jonestown Massacre form the backbone of The Andales’ delicious melting pot of sounds which is recorded with panache and finished live with a flourish. Having spent most of their time until now hidden away in their secret Le Shark Tank studio in Coventry, the five-piece join us in Birmingham to headline this month’s event.
Most often holed away in Digbeth’s warren of warehouses somewhere along South Birmingham’s canal network, The Mighty Young bring their chaotic garage rock tumble out to play. Mixing the blues of Robert Johnson and Howling Wolf with lo-fi Stooges and White Stripes, expect energy in abundance as they give our stage a seeing to.
PLUS SECRET SPECIAL GUESTS
Made up of members from The Cedar House Band, Dong Fang are a fresh take on an old favourite; rip-rollicking blues rock and roll. Drawing influence from the sounds of 70’s New York and CBGB, Dong Fang deliver the heaviness of Sabbath mixed with the DIY balls of punk, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Hawkwind. With live shows still just numbering those you could count on one hand, get down early to catch them right from the beginning.

Expect some cracking music from next gen. Birmingham, mouth-watering drinks deals, and a massive pile of Brum Notes free for the taking. See you down the front!
